“If there’s an idea, just pursue it…”

Niels Gronau and his keyota team open doors
The product
We have developed a digital lock with which we replace the classic key and thus simplify people's lives thanks to the variety of possible applications in everyday life.
The motivation
The classic metal key has become obsolete after around 3.000 years. We assume that the smartphone will also take on the function of opening doors and that the trend towards smart homes will not end at the front door. On this basis, we want to offer apartment owners and tenants at home, but also landlords and users in the commercial sector, a modern access solution.
The idea
The basis of our solution is the use of virtual keys that can be shared in a variety of ways with those who should have access; Access to the virtual keys can be revoked just as easily. To do this, we use the most modern technologies to transmit and encrypt the data, but at the same time enable installation and installation to be as simple as possible. All you need to know is the size or rather thickness of the door in question. All information is available here: www.keyota.de
The challenge
The parallel development of a comprehensive software solution and our own hardware component presented our small team with limited resources with a major challenge. In addition, the general conditions, such as the availability of both developer capacity and microchips against the background of Covid-19 and wars, have made the situation even more difficult.
The current status
All of our hardware and software is fully developed, tested and certified. After a successful pre-sale phase, we now have our solution in stock and can be ordered directly via our online shop. Our offer is aimed both at users and landlords of houses, apartments or rooms as well as at “smaller” providers in the retail, service, catering sectors... We also already work on a project basis with selected B2B customers Hospitality or office area on the integration of keyota access management. Of course, we are always happy to cooperate with other exciting pilot partners.
Personal advice for founders
Just do it. Of course, all options for obtaining information and, above all, testing the company idea (and there are a lot of them here in our region!) should be used. But ultimately, if you have an idea, just pursue it! Otherwise you will definitely regret not doing it (at the time), because as you get older, your income increases and your family grows, it only gets harder. And if I can open a door for you, just get in touch...
